SHOTZY CHALLENGE
What is the Shotzy Challenge?
The Shotzy Challenge is a part of the County of Riverside Department of Public Health, Immunization Program. The Immunization Program’s goal is to increase the number of children up-to-date on their immunizations by raising parental awareness of timely immunization for infant and children.
Why should my child be immunized by age two?
Immunizations are the single most important way parents can protect their children against serious disease. These diseases can cause serious complications or even death in infants and children. There are no other effective alternatives to protect your child’s health against serious and sometimes deadly diseases.
Did you know?
- Infants are more vulnerable to disease because their immune system cannot easily fight off disease-causing bacteria and viruses. Moreover, the effects of disease are often more serious in infants than in older children.
- Hib disease can cause meningitis and it is most serious in infants under one year of age.
- Many of the diseases that vaccines prevent cannot be effectively treated or cured.
- Even if a disease is not currently present in the community, the bacteria and viruses that cause it have not gone away.
- Disease outbreaks can and do occur in communities that are not protected by immunizations.
